The definitive economic crisis soundtrack
You may know or perhaps may have heard of the British band “Supertramp”. They were quite popular in the 70’s, and even if you haven’t heard of them or don’t know them by name, somewhere in the back of your head you would probably recognize their biggest hit song, “Breakfast in America”.
“Take a look at my girlfriend, she’s the only one I got
Not much of a girlfriend, never seem to get a lot”
I think of Supertramp and their music often these days, but not because of their greatest hit. There is another Supertramp album, which might prove, at least for the title, and particularly for the album cover, to be a perfect musical background to the current media histery about the economic crisis – “Crisis? What crisis?”
So hats off to Supertramp, for producing an album in 1975 that so perfectly catches the spirit of 2009! The cover is particularly fitting for the Croatian political situation – we could just see our prime minister in this lounge chair, explaining to everyone who cares to listen (which is fewer and fewer people these days) how everything is fine and we just need to close our eyes and wait for time to resolve all our problems 🙂
